Counselling

The Counselling Service provides free and confidential counselling for all students. Our counsellors are professionally qualified psychologists and social workers. We offer support, information and assistance to clarify and resolve a range of issues, which might otherwise interfere with personal wellbeing or academic effectiveness. Personal issues may include stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship problems or family difficulties. We also assist with adjustment to university life and address academic issues such motivation, concentration and procrastination.

The Counselling Service also has online support through Blackboard IM. Head to the Counselling website and click through to ‘looking for online support’ to register. Click here for a YouTube clip outlining how to register.

Callaghan campus

In order to see you as quickly as possible and get the support you may need we offer initial appointments with a Student Support Adviser.

These appointments are an opportunity to discuss your situation and what support services are available. These appointments normally take 20 minutes and afterwards the Student Support Adviser may book you in with one of our counsellors on campus or connect you with other services that can assist you.

Our Student Support Advisers are Katrina Hamall and Emma Steele.  To make an initial appointment please call the service at 9am on the day. Appointments are available Monday to Thursday.   If the phone is busy please leave your name and number and the times you are available and we will contact you.  To ensure quick access these appointments are only booked on the day and cannot be prebooked. There are a limited number of appointments available so please call as close to 9am as possible.

If you are an existing client of the service you may request an appointment directly with your counsellor. If it has been twelve months since you have seen a counsellor, you will need to meet firstly with a Student Support Adviser.
